I came up with a little creative challenge: simultaneously draw and spell a word.
That is, arrange and bend a word's letters until they look like the thing that word discribes.
I made about two dozen of these, the best eight are below.
The first one is "clock".
A nice thing about this exercise is that you can do it with simple lines.
Though I plan to improve my graphic skills and meet this challenge with more fleshed-out images.
There is also the possibility of animating these images so they alternate between the picture and a more obvious
"spelling" with the mishapen letters upright and readable left-to-right.
A month later, I found Scott Kim's book Inversions
which is all about building symmetries out of letterforms, often playing with meaning. Here are two symmetries of my own:
